Brown Davis Long Range Fuel Tanks. Armadale 4WD Service Center can cater for most cars with over 340 Fuel Tanks in the Brown Davis Range we will find one to suit your car. Before buying a fuel tank ask these questions 1. Is it made from Aluminium Coated Steel? 2. Is it covered by a Full 2 Year Warranty? 3. Is it supplied with Fuel Guage sender as standard? 4. Is it made from 2mm (14 Gauge) or heavier steel? 5. Does it conform with Australian Design Rules? 6. Does it have approval for use as an accessory from the original vehicle manufacturer? 7. In the case of an Auxiliary Tank does it have Selectable Operation so you can choose the time you use the fuel from each of your tanks? 8. Does it have Fully Padded (Double Skinned) Brackets? All Brown Davis tanks are now (and have been for the past 2 years) constructed from ALUMINIUM COATED COLD ROLLED STEEL SHEET This new material is a product unique to Brown Davis Automotive, as we have this material manufactured to our order and specifications in JAPAN. This requires a lead time of 5 MONTHS !!!! So customers who now have a condensation or BAD fuel problem can rest assured their Brown Davis tank will not let them down. Some manufactures have tried other types of anti-corrosive tank materials, but most anti-corrosive products cause more problems than they fix. (eg: materials like ZINC will form a JELLY like by-product that will block pumps and injectors). Aluminium is the only practical product that will do the required job without ANY side affects !!! and will cope with the expected fuel chemical changes due in the near future. All Brown Davis
Automotive fuel tank kits are manufactured to Australian Standards and
the Australian Design Rules where applicable, NO WELDING IS REQUIRED
with these kits, as they utilise a simple bolt in installation. NO
EXHAUST MODIFICATIONS in most models, are required to install these
kits. They also make use of the original fuel gauge, and carry a full
2 Year Warranty. Construction in 2.0 mm (14
gauge) Aluminium coated cold rolled steel ensures maximum strength and
durability. This gauge of steel is sufficiently resistant to damage by
impact that an additional tank guard is not necessary (most standard
tank guards are thinner than 2.0 mm). Steel is used because, unlike
solid aluminium, it is not prone to fatigue from vibration. The fatigue
resistance of steel far surpasses any weight advantage aluminium may
offer. All tanks are M.I.G. (Metal Inert Gas) welded to assure the
strongest possible seams and are baffled to prevent fuel surge. They are
then pressure tested using two different techniques to eliminate the
possibility of leaks. Drain plugs are fitted horizontally to prevent
them being damaged if the tank is scraped over rocks. In all cases,
Brown Davis Automotive fuel tanks are designed with severe off road use
in mind and will not compromise ground clearance, entry, exit or ramp
over angles. AUXILIARY TANKS are designed to be installed in addition to the original fuel tank. All auxiliary fuel tanks are fitted with a fuel gauge sender. An electrical changeover system changes the source of fuel from the original (main) tank to the auxiliary tank (or vice versa), the vehicle's fuel gauge is simultaneously changed over to indicate the level in the tank from which the fuel is being drawn. No additional fuel gauge is required, the original gauge as fitted to the vehicle is used. A two position switch is fitted to the vehicle and this is all that is needed to perform the changeover function. The changeover valve also redirects the fuel return lines on vehicles fitted with a fuel return system to ensure the excess fuel is returned to the tank from which it is drawn. If this re-routing is not performed, return fuel can overfill the main tank and cause it to overflow onto the ground. There are some instances when the above does not apply, for example, some electronic fuel injected vehicles. In this case, the auxiliary tank is equipped with a transfer pump which moves fuel from the auxiliary tank to the main tank as required by the driver. The auxiliary tank, in this instance, is therefore simply a storage vessel. The changeover switch alternates the fuel gauge between the main and auxiliary tanks, a second on/off switch is used to operate the transfer pump to replenish the level of fuel in the main tank as it becomes low. Syphon systems are not used in any Brown Davis Automotive fuel tank system as they have proved unreliable and often render the vehicle unroadworthy. GAS CONVERSION FUEL TANKS are designed to be installed in a vehicle when the vehicle is to be converted to operate on LP Gas in addition to petrol. This tank is designed to adapt to the original fuel system. When this type of fuel tank is fitted it leaves the original fuel tank space unencumbered to allow the largest area possible for gas cylinder installation. All these tanks ensure unaltered vehicle performance and are filled through the original filling point of the vehicle. They also make use of the original fuel gauge sender unit and, where applicable, the original fuel pump. HOME Copyright 2000 Armadale 4WD Service Centre |
